On the weekend we decided to stay out out Inskip Point for the weekend, so after finishing packing the eskies with one eye one the radar we left around seven,a little later than we wanted.
Stopped at a little shop along the way to pick up some bait and had a good laugh with the owner about camping and storms.A nice quick drive and arrived at the M V Beagle camp grounds.Just got to the entrance and Tom's on the phone it's black,a howling gale and bits of trees everywhere.Great we have about an hour before it hits.
A quick coffee, put up the main tent and down it came.Lucky we were in a lovely sheltered spot as the wind was howling, driving rain with a lot of thunder a lightning,.
Storm coming in.
Thankfully it was gone fairly quickly and out came the sun.We finished putting up the tarp and the tents unpacked the all the car and then relaxed for awhile before lunch.
Our tent
Tarp with John's tent behind it.
It was a perfect spot, a quick walk and you were on the beach. Not a lot of people on it but you did have to watch out for cars.
View from camp
A few bites but no fish we had more trouble with the cheeky birds that took of with your bait and lines.Still it was nice just to sit there and watch the cars over on Fraser Island. It's like a highway over there.
Cars waiting for the barge back
A nice steak and salad for tea then watch the sun go down.Needed a few clouds and it would have been a glorious photo.Sat around the fire talking and having a few coffees then it was time bed.John in the meantime had wandered over to watch his new friends trying to fire twirl.Interesting to watch.
Sunset over Tin Can Bay
Was going to get up early but after a crap nights sleep, they don't make stretcher beds long enough I slept in till 5...oops.Still we had a nice breakfast of bacon and eggs and then pulled everything down so we didn't have to do it later.John wandered off fishing and I decided to find some wildlife.
Red backed Wren
A quick lunch and we decided we had better head home, quite a few trees and branches down on the side of the road but no damage at home thankfully. We have decided there are a few more things we need to be comfortable camping and a few things we don't need to take.It was a good tryout trip.I have put a lot more photos over in the photo page.
Next trip after the Gold Coast is the Bunya Mountains in a few weeks time.
Cost $5.30 per person per night.
