Bunya Mountains 3-4 Dec 2011

Leaving home at six in the morning we headed off to the Bunya Mountains via Kingaroy. The road up to the mountains this way is beautiful although very windy, steep and narrow.

The further we went up the narrower it got.
We finally reached our destination Dandabah camping ground and as we were a bit early we decide togo for a drive around and a wander up to the lookout. Here the views were spectacular, you could almost see to the coast.
After a quick walk around we wandered  back to the grounds to set up our site. There weren't a lot of people there so we got a nice spot under a tree and not to far from the amenities.
The grounds aren't very large and there weren't many people there so it was very peaceful. There were wallabies roaming around, little superb fairy wrens and a couple female bower birds. They were all very inquisitive and came right into your site. There were also King Parrots and Rosellas flying around. They too would come right into the camp.
After some lunch and a coffee we thought we would do one of the shorter walks which then turned into a lot longer one than we thought to do but it was lovely.so off we went to do the scenic circuit which is supposed to be only a 4 klm return trip,it was a lot longer than that. The walk is through rainforest with huge Bunya pines and and may other types of trees,There are ferns and birdnest high up in the trees and many types of fungi growing.
You wander along creeks passing  a few waterfalls
Along the way you come across  Pine Gorge where the views are Stunning. You can see all across the South Burnett and in the distance Towang Power station.
We slowly wander back and finally after nearly three hours of walking we arrive back at camp. After a few drinks and nibblies it's time for tea. After a relaxing bbq it's time for bed.Note to self it was freezing so extra blankets a must.
Up at the crack of dawn we pull down the tents and decide to head off to Paradise car park to do another walk.
We decide to do the Big Falls lookout walk which is not as short as they say.
This is another lovely walk wandering past creeks and waterfalls nice easy going down hill but is a bit harder coming back.We wander through more rainforest emerging out into grassy slopes with stunning views..
And a great shot of the sun with it's icey halo.

Shame my camera is stuffed oh well next time. Finally we get to the lookout which after rains would give you the best view of Big Falls. But it was still lovely there.
We finally head back and arrive back at the car around 11am.So we head off home stopping along the way for a quick bite to eat.Arrive home tired but truly had the best weekend.we have decided to go back again after the xmas rush and spend a  bit longer there. One thing is a must you must take a very good repellent there the ticks are horrid this time of year.
Total cost for camping.$15.90 and a few 20 cents for  the bbq.
Trip 48 hours 434klms round trip.
I have put a lot more photos up on the photo page I hope you enjoy them
Cooloola Coast
Yesterday we decided to explore a few new fishing holes.Off to Tin Can Bay where it was too windy so we decided to head north towards Maryborough.First stop was Poona which was not what we were looking for,so we headed further north to Boonooroo in the Sandy Straits.

We then headed back south to Tinnanbar and of course I had to find a dirt road. It's a lovely place and one we will go back to
.
From there we headed back to Inskip Point but the fish weren't biting and there were still a lot of campers there. So back to Tin Can where we threw a line in at one of the creeks.Still not nothing but saw a couple of beautiful seas eagles.
Total trip 400klms
